A supercharger can be described as a fan that boosts air flow to the engine of a vehicle. The increased air flow is meant to make more oxygen available for combustion. High levels of oxygen would allow for a more complete burning of fuel. This greatly increases the power output for every stroke of the vehicle’s engine. The supercharger can be powered by the gas exhaust from the engine or by an Engine Control Unit. The gas exhaust powered supercharger is referred to as the turbo charger. The turbo charger is composer to two principal components: the gas exhaust turbine and the centrifugal compressor. With the turbocharger only the air flow is increased without directly affecting the fuel supply to the engine. Furthermore the turbo needs a lot of work to install compared to the ECU controlled supercharger. With the electric ECU powered supercharger, the control of both air and fuel supply is possible. The ECU has sensors and valves installed in the carburetor and fuel line of the vehicle. Thus the ECU is able to determine the optimum fuel-air ratio needed for a particular power requirement. For instance the sensor is able to detect when an engine has not warmed up yet and proceeds to supply a fuel rich fuel-air ratio to speed up the warming. The rate at which the supercharger is forcing air into the carburetor is thus easily regulated by the ECU. The ECU then determines the corresponding rate of fuel flow to the carburetor which allows for an optimum fuel-air ratio to be achieved. This translates to more efficient fuel use and thus greater fuel economy. In our stores, you get to find the ideal supercharger kit for you Fleetwood.
